Glue Application Equipment for Mattresses and Furniture

SCT supplies glue application equipment for mattresses and furniture in South Africa.

We offer a versatile range of glue extrusion systems, as well as glue spray and glue transfer units. These can be adapted to suit a wide variety of applications.

Also see below for an overview of what to consider when choosing glue application equipment.

Recommended glue extrusion equipment

We supply a selection of manual and semi-automatic glue extrusion systems from Pizzi, an Italian manufacturer that has been operating since 1958.

Pizzi focuses exclusively on producing cold glue and adhesive application systems. These are known and trusted across a number of industries – including the mattress and furniture manufacturing industry – where precise, efficient glue application is key.

About glue application for mattresses and furniture production

Adhesives play a vital role in mattress production, from laminating cushioning foam layers to bonding tops to substrates and securing foam slabs and blocks.

In furniture manufacture, they’re used for bonding a very broad range of different materials.

Across industries, the precise application of adhesive prevents structural and aesthetic defects in finished products. It also minimises waste of glue and helps keep the work environment safe and reasonably mess-free.

What to consider when choosing glue application equipment

The best adhesive application system will, of course, depend on the nature of the materials to be bonded, the choice of adhesive and the intended scale of production.

If multiple materials have to be glued, you’ll need equipment that is suitably versatile.

Glue extrusion vs. glue spray systems

Glue extrusion typically involves using pressure to apply glue to a substrate in a homogenous layer (whether continuously or in dots or another pattern).

Adhesive extrusion creates strong, resilient bonds. It is widely used in both mattress and furniture production.

By contrast, adhesive spray systems work in the same way as paint sprayers. They use pressure to force liquid glue out through a nozzle, for applying to a substrate in a spray of small glue droplets.

Spraying glue is less precise than using a glue extrusion gun. However, it has advantages in certain contexts.

For example, delicate materials – like some foams – may support thin layers of sprayed glue better than hot-melt adhesive (which aside from being hot when applied, is rigid once cool).

Adhesive spray systems are fast and efficient. They also make it easy to apply glue at different angles and onto uneven surfaces.

Hand-held, semi-automated or automated glue application

A hand-held glue extrusion system or spray system is comparatively inexpensive, versatile and suitable for a wide range of projects.

For greater volumes (and certain types) of glue work, a semi-automated system can yield significant savings in time and money.

For example, our Pizzi 9033 semi-automatic glue applicator extrudes glue onto multiple surfaces simultaneously – enabling glue work to be completed in a fraction of the time. It’s ideal for jobs like joinery production of windows or sashes.

For high production volumes, a custom automated solution may be ideal.
